Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Synergy MD Clinic, our services, and how to get started.

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, and Medicaid. We also accept most Texas Medicaid managed care plans. Please contact our office at +1 469-520-4180 to verify your specific coverage before your appointment. We are transparent about costs and will inform you of any out-of-pocket expenses in advance.
Yes! Following updated federal guidelines, we can prescribe buprenorphine (Suboxone) via telehealth for all Texas residents without an in-person visit required. This is fully legal under the Ryan Haight Act waiver and HIPAA-compliant. You can start MAT the same day as your telehealth consultation. Call +1 469-520-4180 or book online.
Call us at +1 469-520-4180 as early as possible for same-day appointments — we try to accommodate urgent needs. You can also use our online booking form on the Contact page. For telehealth visits, we often have more immediate availability. Please note that same-day availability varies.
Absolutely. Addiction treatment records at Synergy MD Clinic are protected under federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR Part 2), which provide even stronger privacy protections than standard HIPAA. This means your addiction treatment records cannot be shared with anyone — including family members, employers, law enforcement, or other healthcare providers — without your explicit written consent.
Please bring: a valid government-issued photo ID, your insurance card, a list of all current medications and supplements, any relevant medical records or previous lab results, and if applicable, a list of substances currently being used. For telehealth visits, have all documents photographed and ready to share. Arrive 15 minutes early if coming in person to complete new patient paperwork.
Yes — this is one of our greatest clinical advantages. Dr. Kaura is triple board-certified in Addiction Medicine, Infectious Disease, and Internal Medicine/Primary Care. Many patients benefit from having all three areas managed simultaneously by one physician who understands how they interact. This is the integrated care model that makes Synergy MD Clinic unique.
Our clinic is located at 399 W Campbell Rd, Richardson, TX 75080. We serve in-person patients from Richardson, Dallas, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Garland, and surrounding areas. Via telehealth, we serve ALL Texas residents regardless of location — from El Paso to Beaumont.
No. This is a common misconception. Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is an FDA-approved medication that treats opioid use disorder — the same way metformin treats diabetes or lisinopril treats hypertension. Patients on therapeutic doses of buprenorphine function normally, maintain employment and family relationships, and are protected from overdose. Research conclusively shows MAT saves lives and improves quality of life.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Research shows that longer duration of buprenorphine treatment is associated with better outcomes. ASAM and most addiction medicine authorities recommend treating opioid use disorder as a chronic condition — many patients benefit from long-term or indefinite maintenance. However, Dr. Kaura works with each patient individually toward their personal goals, whether that includes indefinite maintenance or eventual taper.
Yes. Active substance use is no longer a contraindication to Hepatitis C treatment with modern direct-acting antivirals. Cure rates in people who use drugs are equivalent to the general population, and patients on MAT (Suboxone, methadone) respond just as well to HCV treatment. Treating Hepatitis C is important regardless of substance use status, as it prevents liver damage and can actually serve as a powerful motivator in addiction recovery.
Almost all services are available via telehealth: MAT initiation and management, HIV care, primary care visits, diabetes management, GLP-1 therapy, hormone therapy, medication refills, lab result review, and care coordination. Services requiring physical examination (joint injections, hardware concerns requiring imaging) may need an in-person visit. Call us to determine what is appropriate for your situation.
Three things make us unique: (1) Triple board-certified expertise — very few physicians in Texas are certified in all three of our specialty areas; (2) Integrated care model — we treat addiction, infection, and primary care simultaneously under one roof, eliminating the fragmentation that characterizes most healthcare; (3) Genuine, non-judgmental compassion — we treat every patient with the dignity they deserve, no matter their history.
